La Llamada
The Call
José and María share their days in a routine of silences and knowing glances. On José’s 81st birthday, his old friends celebrate with laughter and toasts, but his mind is elsewhere: he waits, as he does every year, for a phone call he doesn’t know will come. Amid the merriment and nostalgia, the day passes, and although affection surrounds him, the absence he carries weighs more than any party.

WHY IT MATTERS TO US?
The film subtly exposes the wound left by being abandoned by one’s children. The wait for a phone call becomes a symbol of what was never had and is still longed for, a reminder that absent affection leaves as deep a mark as presence. It confronts us with the emotional fragility that persists even in old age.
"An intimate and moving portrait of how family absences can weigh more than any celebration."
"Simple yet powerful: the story of a wait that distills a lifetime of longing and silence."
"Moving without artifice, reminding us that the wounds of family abandonment never truly disappear."
